PROGRAM INTRODUCTION
The future of nursing
Dr. Brian C. DeBusk has dedicated his entire professional life to serving and improving the US HealthCare marketplace as exemplified by his desire to develop a Nursing Degree program in conjunction with Lincoln Memorial University. Dr. DeBusk currently service as the Vice Chairman of the University and has overseen the considerable growth that LMU has experienced in the past ten years.

LMU currently has extremely successful Medical, Veterinarian, Physician Assistant, and Nursing school, primarily aimed at serving populations from the communities surrounding the university. As LMU recognized the shortage of medical professionals serving small city and rural communities in the Southeastern United States, it has continued to grow its professional medical degree programs and currently boasts the highest number of General Practitioners of any university in the Unites States.

As healthcare continues to become more and more personalized, the demand for Nurses and Physician Assistants will continue to multiply. Dr DeBusk recognizes the challenge this causes for HealthCare systems, and the United States is already in a critical shortage situation particularly for Nurses. He believes that Nurses will be the key component in serving the evolving Patient needs in the United States, specifically with a continuous increase in the number of Patients who can be cared for as well in their home as they can in a critical care setting. The desire to deliver care in cost effective ways will keep continuous pressure on hospital systems to return patients home as quickly as possible, and then deliver the on-going care the Patient needs in their home setting. This will also meet the Patients’ desire to be in their own home as soon as possible.

Dr. DeBusk will coordinate NDI as a non-profit organization and will work with foreign universities to develop degree programs with LMU, so Nurses (and potentially other medical professional students) can receive their degree and necessary certifications to allow the students to enter the lucrative field of medical professionals in the United States. It is the intent of the program to team with a Nurse Placement company to provide work opportunities for the Nurses while they complete their degrees and post-graduation. The placement company will direct a portion of its fees back to the non-profit, so the non-profit can provide additional loan opportunities for future international Nursing candidates, in a “pay it forward” model.
